3. Small pretty things

Viviana and her husband are dreaming about their baby as every pregnant couple does. What will they name it, will it be a boy or a girl? But then their dream of parenthood crashes and falters on the rocks of fate. Viviana cries for the child that she mis-carried, and her husband mourns for the lover he has lost as Viviana retreats into herself.

Small Pretty Things

[Viviana & Husband] Now we wait for things to come, sweet pretty things, a little one. And as we wait, we two become one, united as lovers, now parents become.

[Choir] La la la lalalala…. etc.

[Viviana] Now we wait for things to come, what will it be, a Jane or a John?

[Husband] I don’t really care it’s the trying that’s fun. united as lovers, what can go wrong?

[Choir] La la la lalalala…. etc.

[Husband] Now we wait for things to come, I’ll be a father, she’ll be a mum. But as we wait, our fears grow strong, something’s the matter now, something is wrong:.

[Choir] (in dissonant) La la la lalalala…. etc.

[Viviana] So what happens now? the child that I carried, child I misscarried, isn’t to be?

[Husband] And what happens now? The woman I married, the lover I cherished, where can she be?

[Viviana & Husband] but what happens now? the hope that we carried, expectations we cherished, Haven’t come true.

[Viviana] so what happens now? the child that I carried, child I misscarried, isn’t to be?
