An identity shock

Whoa! Stop!
Identity shock!
The world, my world
Shrieks to a grinding hold.
Silence Silence.

A day by the seaside
Now as the heat waves over us,
after weeks of cloud and rain.
With happy faces, one by one,
we climb aboard the train.

Empty nest
Small tiny feet through the bedroom they pad
Fear and fright drives you into our bed
I hug you close
You fall asleep
You’re just on loan, not mine to keep

Giving birth
Birth, birthing,
giving birth, Mother Earth.
The pain, the joyful pain.
Wave after wave, a tormenting refrain.

Between death and new life
There you now lie, my sweetest love
Helpless as a babe, and yet more helpless still.
Sunk deep into your deepest self
You resemble the boy

Small sparks of Life
Small sparks of Life
That burned so briefly
Small sparks of Life
Were loved so fiercely
